Letter [manuscript] : Washington, to Wilson Cary Nicholas, 1816 March 18.

Smith opens by discussing various bills and constituent issues he is involved in and goes on to praise Nicholas for his great solicitude for the security of his state. Picking up on this issue of security, Smith stresses the importance of securing the nation's ports, including Boston, Charleston, and the Chesapeake Bay.
